Center for Biomedical Imaging & Neuromodulation

Yunglin Gazes, PhD, also known as Elaine, recently joined C-BIN as a Research Scientist after 18 years at Columbia University Medical Center. Since obtaining her doctoral degree in Experimental Psychology from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York, the focus of her research has been on the applications of neuroimaging techniques, mostly MRI, to understand the mechanisms underlying aging and neuro-degenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. She has ongoing collaborations with researchers and clinicians from research institutions throughout the country. One focus of her research has been conducting advanced white matter tractography on multi-shell diffusion MRI to identify white matter tracts associated with various cognitive and behavioral phenomena such as cognitive aging in healthy older adults and apathy in Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. In her spare time, Dr. Gazes tries to stay physically active by kickboxing, running, and swimming.
