One in five American adults experiences a mental health condition every year, and about one in 25 lives with a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. In addition to the person directly experiencing a mental illness, family, friends, and communities are also affected.
Fifty percent of mental health conditions begin by age 14, and 75% of mental health conditions develop by age 24. (Figures from the National Alliance on Mental Illness).
While the number of those touched by psychiatric disorders continues to rise, government and industry funding for research and development of novel treatments is limited. Your support to help treat and prevent mental illness is critical.
Financial support from generous donors fuels the discoveries that have touched the world. Please join us in our mission as we strive to identify new and better options for those affected by psychiatric illnesses.
Contributions in support of the research conducted at the Nathan S. Kline Institute may be made to the Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. All contributions are fully tax deductible.
If you would like your funds to be used within a specific area of research or a designated lab/program (e.g. Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia, etc.) please let us know. Alternatively, your contribution will be put to use based on greatest need.
If you have questions or would like to speak with us about your donation or planned giving, please call the Director’s office at (845) 398-5502.
