Umit Tural, M.D., earned his medical degree at the Medical School of Ege University, Turkey, completed his residency in Psychiatry at the Medical School of Dokuz Eylul University, and then became a professor of psychiatry and faculty member at the Medical School of Kocaeli University, Turkey. At the beginning of his research career, he worked on adapting panic and anxiety scales into Turkish using his expertise in statistics. Then, he focused his research on pharmacotherapy and psychobiology of PTSD. He made short-term visits to the Brain Imaging Center of the University of Verona and the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Western Ontario in order to bolster his professional experience. Dr. Tural worked in the in/outpatient department of Kocaeli University where he also taught and supervised psychiatry residents as well as M.D., M.Sc., and Ph.D. students. His main areas of clinical and research interest are biological psychiatry, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, research methods, and statistics. He has also taught statistics and the use of statistical software packages. In 2017, his passion for learning and innovation led him to join NKI’s new clinical research team, where he is now an Assistant Research Scientist.
