A special emphasis is on saliva monitoring as a non-invasive approach to study melatonin, cortisol, and other neuroendocrine markers in the monitoring of children or adults participating in long- term studies requiring frequent monitoring of compounds of interest in biological psychiatry. Using mass spectrometry, the enantiomer of methylphenidate, D-Methylphenidate and all metabolites were quantified in a series of animal and human studies the results of which were submitted as part of a successful application to the FDA allowing subsequent marketing of this compound as an improved treatment for ADHD.
