George Hula assumed the role of Facilities Manager at NKI in March of 2022 after spending 27 years in public school facilities. He was born and raised on a dairy farm in central New York and attended local schools. After college, he started his construction career building residential homes and commercial buildings, and operated his own construction company for many years. Working for master builders, Mr. Hula acquired journeyman level skills in the basic construction trades, including plumbing, masonry, electrical, and carpentry. He is also a skilled machinery mechanic.

Mr. Hula started his facilities maintenance career as a public school Maintenance Mechanic and quickly moved up through the ranks at five different schools districts holding the positions of: Head Custodian, Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds, and Director of Facilities. In 2012, Mr. Hula achieved the title of Certified Director of Facilities through the NYS Schools Facilities Management Institute. He is a past Secretary and Treasurer of the Northern Catskills Chapter School Buildings & Grounds Association; past Chairman of the Herkimer County Town of Warren Board of Assessment Review; and Planning Board Vice Chairman & Secretary. In 2008, he was awarded the prestigious Energy Star Award for energy conservation by the Environmental Protection Agency through the New York State NYSERDA energy benchmark for schools program.
